How I got started

Victoria Gunawan

I began photographing for fun in 2009, when I bought a digital Sony camera. I carried it around everywhere so that I could photograph things that fascinated me, mainly sunsets and flowers. However, I never had any formal photography lessons until I took a photojournalism course at Hesston College. I learned additional photography skills as part of the yearbook staff. After earning my associate degree at Hesston College, I transferred and enrolled as a full-time student at Eastern Mennonite University (EMU). I am currently taking a social media class, a photography class, and a couple of design classes. I plan on graduating from EMU in 2015 with a bachelor’s degree in Communications and a minor in Mathematics. I hope my classes at EMU help to obtain a lot of photographic and design experiences for various media such as newspapers and web sites.
