About Mariann Smith

Mariann Smith

I am currently a junior at Eastern Mennonite University. I am majoring in Digital Media, and I found this passion early on in middle school. I have always been intrigued by art, no matter what form. Since being at EMU, I have taken Digital Photography and Foundations of Design. Both classes helped me to develop necessary skills that I will need in the future. I am currently enrolled in three other digital media based classes, which are going to help me develop a deeper understanding of what digital media is and help me pick a discipline within the major.

This website will showcase some of the work that I completed when I took EMU's Digital Photography course. I received hands-on experience through a range of assigned projects, everything from snapping a quick photo of the nature around Harrisonburg to creating our own virtual world. I learned to use some of the Adobe Creative Suite products, including Photoshop and Bridge. I will expand my skills to learning more of the products as I finish this semester. I hope to continue to grow as an artist while I complete my journey to receive my degree.

Why Photography?

Photography is complex - it takes knowledge, patience, and perseverance to create a successful piece. Each detail matters, and that is why I fell in love with picture taking. I feel that I can turn an ordinary scene into a masterpiece with the simple click of a button.
