About Asha Landes Beck
I’m Asha and I attend Eastern Mennonite University, majoring in Digital Media & Communications with a minor in Spanish. At EMU I have learned a wide range of technical skills including graphic design, photography, film production, and fine arts, much of which has been through Adobe software. I have learned these technical skills in conjunction with discussion and real-world application of ethics, representation, sensitivity, and storytelling. My goal is to communicate designs in a way most representational of myself and my clients. For me, it is impossible to separate design from people. They are inherently connected, and the human experience is largely centered in my work.
I have done projects on everything from logos to a documentary on Mennonite churches to an After Effects video featured on large screen behind a rock-musical production of Romeo and Juliet based on the style of U2. However, I find myself drawn to connection and relationships both between humans and between the natural world. Specifically, I have been drawn to projects for and about women and queer folx, including a photo project put into book form that explores beauty of the bodies of women and queer folx and nature.
I have been pushed by professors to reflect upon my own experiences and identities as an important part of telling other people’s stories. I work to be aware of my own presence, and bring my strengths in vocality, sensitivity, and anger at injustice through my work to empower and expose harmful systems. In my work you’ll find deep stories but also light, joy, and goofiness, which are all parts of who I am, and I am beyond excited to learn more about the different parts of you.
