How I got started

I began photographing for fun in 2009. I invested in a Canon Rebel T1i, and I anxiously began carrying it everywhere I went capturing things that interested me. Immediately, I began to get curious about how the camera worked apart from it's automatic functions. I dove into the tedious learning process of shooting in manual and learned everything about my camera until I felt comfortable enough to photograph people using full manual mode. This was when I was 15. By age 16, I had my first photo session which involved doing band photos for a few friends. Shortly after, I did my first birthday party. I am now 20 years old, attending Eastern Mennonite University pursuing a degree in photography and digital media or business. I have successfully made photography my only income and my business is officially legal. No longer just a hobby, I plan on making photography my full time career (if it isn't already) and beginning my journey as a wedding and portrait photographer.

My main equipment

  • Canon 5D mark ii camera body
  • Canon EOS Rebel T1i camera body
  • Canon 50mm f/1.4 USM lens
  • Canon 70-200mm f/2.8L USM lens
  • Speedlight 430EX II flash
  • Joe Totes camera bag
  • Various accessories, batteries, stands, etc.

Education

I knew that I wanted to be a photographer by my Junior year of high school. I attended Spotswood High school in Penn Laird, Virginia. After graduating in 2011, I decided to enroll in Blue Ridge Community College for two years. For one-and-a-half years, I studied only the core requirements at Blue Ridge and did not enter into a single photo class. Rather than stay my planned two years at Blue Ridge, I left a semester early and enrolled as a full-time student at Eastern Mennonite University (EMU). I plan on graduating from EMU in 2015 with a bachelor's degree in Photography and plenty of photographic experience ranging from portrait photography to alternative photography styles such as infrared, panoramic, landscapes, and more.

Thanks for stopping by and God bless!
