Pursuing a higher level of communication

This portfolio explores the dichotomy between written and visual communication; how they relate to our interpretations of environment, culture, and home. It questions how those perceptions change as we leave our familiar environments -- how we recognize ourselves in new places and slowly claim part of those previously foreign landscapes as our own. This project also confronts the internal battle of processing change or revelations within our "home" environments and the emotions that stem from these shifts.

On Panic

When panic come like an unannounced relative

Like the distant kind you don’t even buy Christmas presents for

The one you invite over but only comes every fourth year,

Open your door

Clear the clutter from your coffee table

Bring your favorite blanket out and allow your visitor to kick its feet up and say “I’m here”...

On Revolution

We can’t pretend this scent isn’t burnt flesh anymore

People tell me not to talk about it, like my body will heal itself

But this burn isn’t the kind you run under cool water

It stings as it’s exposed to air,

It heats my muscles like the fire is still there,

And it festers, infected, as dark as my raven hair and eyes...

On Terror

You whisper:

“Wait for the song to begin, we will see how it goes”

“It will be alright”

“Everything will resolve itself”

But in that space between chaos and resolution is purgatory...
