Waverly Dairy Farm
For a conservation photography project I was able to partner with a local dairy farm to help inform the community about ways farmers are helping with water conservation. Waverly Dairy Farm is a local dairy farm that started their herd back in 1967 and is a family owned located in Clear Brook, Virginia. Today their herd consists of 400 registered jersey cattle and their calves. With their location in the Shenandoah Valley being a part of the Chesapeake Bay watershed, sustainable practices and conservation efforts are a part of their everyday operations. There are so many things that are involved in everyday farming operations that not many people get to see or know about. Carbon emissions is a large part of the agriculture industry and accounts for only 1.3% of the world's emissions. Many individuals feel that agriculture is the root of this issue when farms have regulations that they must follow to stay in business. Over the years Agriculturalists have found new ways to store and use manure to keep it out of our water systems, while keeping emissions down. Farmers put countless hours into producing and improving their communities. Without farmers how would the economy be able to function?
