MY PROJECTS

SKIN

SKIN is a book I created during my third year in college at Eastern Mennonite University. The book consists of solely digital images, with a majority of them being taken in a studio environment.

Artist Statement

Skin is universally beautiful. Skin interests me because everyone has skin but everyone’s skin is completely different. Despite these vast differences in types of skin and the way skin ages, I think we are all beautiful in our own skin. I think all the scars, freckles, and tattoos we have not only adds beauty, but it gives us uniqueness and gives us the ability to tell stories through our skin.

Through this book, I wish to be able to showcase everyone’s beauty and how we should all see beautiful things in one another’s skin. When I began to work on this project, I didn’t want to focus on any particular part of the body but as I started to put my book together I realized that people’s facial expressions are able to change each wrinkle and fold in the skin in incredible ways. This led me to focus more on portraits. I thought that portraits were a good way to show how I see beauty in everyone’s skin because our face is typically the first thing we see when we interact with one another.
