What I do.
I’m a current Junior at Eastern Mennonite University studying Digital Media.
In the future I see myself working for a fair trade organization collaborating with artisans, studying restoration or preservation art, or working with staging photographs in some way (be it with food, fashion, furniture, or something else entirely).
What I love.
My favorite types of art are those that exist directly at the crossroad of digital and studio art. Some examples are:
- Light painting: a type of photography created with a long exposure which allows me, as the artist, to literally “paint” with light.
- Stop motion film: a string of pictures that creates motion by piecing together still frames. With this method, I have more time to compose and set each shot, so I can work more as a studio artist.
- Studio photography: this involves more hands on work with makeup and set design which again brings in the studio art.
- Abstract photography: this highlights the basic elements of design. I love when photographs function like paintings.
- In the art studio I also favor more technical forms of art. My favorite style of painting is trompe l’oeil, a type of extreme photo realism.
- I love watercolors.
- I love when I can get my hands dirty with paint or clay, etc.
- I love when the artistic process is active and embodied (e.g. ceramics, lightpainting photography, staging a photograph) and I become completely immersed in the process of creating an image or product.
