Artist Statement

In our hectic schedules we rarely take the time to stop and think. We rush through our days and don't bother examining the world around us. We don't bother seeing things from a new angle like this picture of a leaf caught in a web. We don't take the time to examine the magic that is reading, where we interpret a random grouping of symbols and assign meaning to them. I explored that idea using photoshop, where I created a story from a book and brought it into the real world.

All of the people I interviewed in this collection of articles are just regular people living their lives. Some are young, trying to make it through school so they can launch their careers. Some are older, trying to reinvent themselves as they enter a new stage of life. Interviewing these people and hearing their stories was an amazing experience for me. They reminded me to step out of my own perspective and to listen and learn from their experiences. We all have stories to share, but we’ll never hear them if no one asks.
