The Main idea: Creating a program for small towns
I want to be able to create a program in a small town that offers the same opportunities for kids in the cities. This program will allow kids to be able to play sports that aren’t normally offered to them for rec sports or in school. Even smaller cities like Harrisonburg still have their limits on what sports they can provide. I want to provide a place that can give kids endless opportunities. I want to give kids an opportunity to play field hockey or lacrosse because its not offered in smaller towns or cities and I want to give kids that opportunity.
My Inspiration and Target: Learning from coaches and less opportunities
Something that has always stuck with me was that growing up one of my coaches would always say around the lines that; there are kids out there that want to play or be in your shoes but can’t because they never had the same opportunity as you. With that said I want to give those kids that opportunity, I want kids that may not have a lot of money to find something that there passionate abou. I want to give them that chance to show them that they can do anything that they put their mind to. And who knows maybe they are a natural at it and they grow up to be one of the best.
A lot of kids are no longer interested in playing sports and rather stay home. I want to change that where that they want to play. Some athletes will also lose interest in playing because they may not be in a good environment, or their coach may intimidate them. I want to create a safe place where the kid can love the sport no matter what weather it’s the environment or the coach. I want to encourage the kids that they can work hard and become something great and love the sport and that this is their safe place. Even if a school coach discouraging the kid, we would do anything to pick them back up and show them why they fell in love with the sport in the first place.
